Connecting Analysts or CONAN platform is launched by Europol

On the 3rd of October 2019 Europol launched a new platform for intelligence analysts called CONAN.

On 3 October 2019, Europol’s Executive Director, Catherine De Bolle launched CONAN (Connecting Analysts).

The platform was announced at the margins of the European Police Chiefs Convention. The annually convention was held in Europol’s headquarters in The Hague. 600 police chiefs and senior law enforcement representatives from 50 countries attended. One of the topics of discussion was the cross-border nature of organised crime and the related challenges.

Related to this problem, the CONAN platform provides a means of cross border cooperation for Law enforcement agencies to counter the increasing cross-border nature of crime. As such, criminal analysts from EU Member States, third partner countries and relevant partner agencies will be able to elaborate and share guidelines, methodologies, training materials, analytical tools and additional resources via the platform.

CONAN will feature two sections on operational and strategic analysis where law enforcement experts from Member States and beyond can exchange their expertise, interact with each other and work towards improving intelligence analysis.

Furthermore, a sub-platform will be devoted to facilitating knowledge-sharing solely among EU law enforcement professionals. In the near future, a sub-platform will also allow EU Member State law enforcement analysts to develop and co-create analytical tools.
